This 2-day course will provide a comprehensive and evidence-based framework for maximizing efficiency of assessment and interventions for individuals with mild through moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI). Participants will gain an understanding of the complex operation of the brain and how TBI disrupts motor, sensory and behavioral function. This course will address both the functional and structural deficits, review dynamic and evidence-based interventions to optimize learning and neuroplasticity as well as address management of challenging behaviors seen following mild through moderate TBI. Case examples will used to apply learned knowledge and provide the clinician with tools to return to practice with an improved clinical toolbox.
Dr. Carolyn Tassini, PT, DPT, CBIS is an engaging speaker and accomplished board-certified neurologic physical therapist specializing in the treatment of individuals experiencing traumatic brain injury. She serves as the rehabilitation supervisor of physical and occupational therapy at Bancroft NeuroRehab and spent nearly 10 years as TBI Service Team Leader at MossRehab. Dr. Tassini holds a master’s degree in physical therapy from Thomas Jefferson University and received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions. She lectures in the area of brain injury rehabilitation at several local universities and has spoken at APTA’s combined sections on a variety of topics in neurologic rehabilitation. She is an active member within the American Physical Therapy Association’s Academy of Neurology where she serves as the Chair-Elect of the Brain Injury Special Interest Group.
