This course will provide the experienced clinician with in-depth knowledge of the developmental consequences and physiologic obstacles faced by infants born with Cardiac, Respiratory and/or Neurologic Diagnoses. Information for both full-term and pre-term infants will be provided, along with the current literature reporting on long-term outcomes. Functional information will be a strong focus to ensure the audience can immediately apply advanced critical thinking skills and strategies to their caseloads. Topics approached from a neuroprotective framework will include handling, positioning, oral care, feeding/swallowing, and sensory processing. Infant directed therapy with implications for frequency and intensity will be discussed. A strong focus will be placed on developmental appropriateness, research efficacy, and both professional and family caregiver education. The use of videos and real-life experience will make this course engaging, interactive and functional to any clinician looking to make real progress with the children on their caseload with complex medical issues.
