Course Description:
An essential two day seminar for Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and other professionals in all settings to increase the awareness and appropriate treatment plans for children presenting with craniofacial anomalies or underlying hypernasality. • Identify basic genetic malformations and dysmorphology • Explain use and rationale of specialty feeding devices for children with cleft plate • Perform a feeding assessment on a child with a craniofacial anomaly and make appropriate recommendations • Recognize craniofacial anomalies and explain how these effect breathing, feeding and speech production. • Describe the different surgical options for cleft palate • Produce treatment plans for children of all ages with hypernasality • Assess for and identify compensatory articulation patterns • Demonstrate ability to write appropriate goals and develop treatment plan or older children presenting with glottal stops, pharyngeal fricatives and poste rior nasal fricatives • Interpret structure and anatomy of the velopharyngeal area from watching nasoendoscopies
