Course Description:
Research supports an association between the development of play and the acquisition of specific language abilities in young children. In addition, music has been shown to enhance children's atttention and participation in varied language and play activities. In this course a speech-language pathologist and an early childhood educator will collaborate in reviewing research that examines the play and language of children with various disabilities including autism spectrum disorders, and in providing an evidence-based framework for analyzing and promoting young children's play and language skills in naturalistic contexts. They will highlight creative ways to use music as a vehicle for addressing play and language goals across a variety of settings. Video segments and case examples will be included to illustrate key concepts and demonstrate practical techniques for integrating language, play and music in an intervention program. People are saying..... "This workshop is very appropriate for the non-verbal or early emergent talker. The activities and suggestions are very age appropriate, fun and easy to apply to my 2 year old students." Georgene Bonard, NJ
