Course Description:
This practical, interactive workshop is designed to look at current theoretical information and apply it clinically in the complex areas of vision, visual perception and visual motor integration. Non-verbal learning disability, perceptual impairment and attention deficit will be highlighted.
This workshop will provide a framework for therapists to apply their knowledge and skills with children who are exhibiting difficulties in visual, perceptual, and cognitive skills areas that effect visual motor performance. With a comprehensive view of how these areas interact and integrate, therapists will be better able to: - analyze currently available assessment tools - clinically analyze and design intervention plans more specifically targeted toward the child’s levels and needs in these areas. The variety of intervention approaches for visual motor problems will be discussed through a series of clinical reasoning questions. Intervention cases will be presented using the following approaches: - Optometric - Sensory Integration - Motor Learning - COOP - Multi-context In this way, therapists can analyze the child’s current needs and select among current treatment approaches. While the information that will be presented can be applied across a variety of age groups and populations including children with attention deficit learning disabilities, and DCD, the focus of intervention strategies will be on the school age population especially those children with handwriting issues.
