Course Description:
Designed for: Physical therapists and occupational therapists involved in complex pediatric patient care in a range of settings, including early intervention, school settings, OPD, rehab, home care, acute care and long-term care
Therapists are often challenged by complex pediatric patients whose care is constantly interrupted by medical issues, hospital stays and surgeries. This comprehensive course will guide clinicians through the process of managing complex pediatric patients and medically fragile patients within the context of their families.
Case studies will be used to advance clinical problem solving skills needed to address the complications and complexities in this challenging population. This course educates therapists on current clinical assessment, treatment and Evidence Based Therapy Practice for the complex pediatric population to improve their overall quality of life.
Participants will be able to apply course learning immediately to: • Assess medically acute and chronic conditions in this population. • Demonstrate clinical decision making within a family centered model of care with this patient mix. • Integrate clinical findings into the development of therapy treatment planning and discharge planning. • Establish guidelines for appropriate treatment settings, referrals and clinical collaboration for this population.
Credits: • GA/MA/CA/NJ/TX/NH: 15 contact hours (1.5 CEUs) • NY: 18 contact hours (1.8 CEUs)
