Donna Frownfelter, PT, MA, CCS, DPT, FCCP,is an internationally known consultant, teacher, practitioner and author. She is best known for the widely used text, co-authored with Elizabeth Dean PhD, PT, Principles and Practice of Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy 4th edition, 2006. In addition Dr. Frownfelter coauthored Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Patterns, Guide to PT Practice with Dr. Marilyn Moffat, 2007.
Dr. Frownfelters experience ranges from neonatal intensive critical care to medical/surgical acute and critical care in large major medical centers to long term care in rehabilitation and skilled nursing centers, home care and consulting to schools. She has been an advocate for children with asthma and who are ventilator assisted to be integrated fully in the school. She is currently promoting self care and management for people with chronic illness and is on the COPD Advocacy Committee of the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago.
As a continuing education instructor to professionals, lay people and in patient advocate roles, Dr. Frownfelter is known for her attention to meet the individual needs of the group participants and provide a challenging and fun setting. Her goal through education is to enable others to improve cardiopulmonary function for themselves and their patients.
Dr. Frownfelter has taught Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy for over 30 years at the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Science/the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. She is currently a full time Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science/the College of Health Professions.
